Corrections Policy

Our Commitment to Corrections

Sacred Places India is written and edited by one person. When errors are identified—whether found during review or reported by a reader—they are corrected promptly and transparently. This corrections policy outlines how errors, updates, and content improvements are handled.

Types of Corrections

Factual corrections: Errors in dates, names, locations, architectural classifications, dynastic attributions, or other verifiable facts are corrected immediately upon verification.
Contextual updates: When new archaeological discoveries or scholarly research supersede previously published information, pages are updated to reflect the current understanding.
Broken links and references: External links are checked periodically and updated or removed if they become inactive.
Image corrections: Incorrectly attributed or misidentified images are corrected as soon as the error is identified.

Selected Corrections

Recent examples of changes we made after checking a claim against a source:

Mundeshwari Temple, Bihar: removed the "carbon dating confirms 108 CE" claim, which no published record supports, and replaced it with the positions on the record — a claimed 108 CE date that scholars dispute, and an ASI plaque reading 635 CE.
BAPS Akshardham, Robbinsville: corrected the campus figure from 73 acres to a 183-acre campus, and replaced an incorrect "272-foot gold statue" with the statue's actual height of 42.7 m (140 ft).
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams: removed unverifiable net-worth and annual-income figures and replaced them with the published FY2023–24 budget and disclosed gold holdings.
Kedarnath: resolved contradictory distances (Rishikesh 209 km vs 228 km) by standardising every figure to a Gaurikund-based measurement.
Prambanan: corrected "nine towers" and "six shrines" to eight main shrines, matching the source description on both pages that carried the claim.

Correction Process

An error is reported via sacredplaceindiahello@gmail.com or through the contact form.
The claim is checked against authoritative sources before anything is changed.
If confirmed, the correction is applied and the page's "Last Updated" timestamp is refreshed.
For significant corrections, the change is noted in the page revision history.

Reporting an Error

To report an error, please email sacredplaceindiahello@gmail.com with:

The URL of the page containing the error.
A description of the error and what the correct information should be.
The source you are using to support the correction (if available).

We acknowledge receipt of all correction reports within 48 hours and aim to resolve verified errors within one week.

Update Frequency

Temple pages and guide content are reviewed on a regular cycle. High-traffic pages and those covering topics where information changes frequently (such as temple timings or festival dates) are prioritized for more frequent review. The "Last Updated" timestamp at the bottom of each page indicates when the content was most recently reviewed.
