Research & Guides

Long-form research written from inscriptions, site reports and UNESCO documentation — not from listicles. Each guide states what the evidence supports, what it does not, and where historians still disagree.

These sit above the directory. A temple page tells you what is at a site and how to visit it; a research guide answers the questions that span many sites — how old the surviving fabric really is, how the three great architectural traditions are told apart, and which commonly repeated dates do not survive checking. Where a claim is contested, both positions are named with the record behind each one.

King Harsha of Kashmir: Why Did He Loot Temples?

Architecture & Styles

Start here if you are trying to place a building. The style directory gives each tradition a heartland, a date range and a reference monument; the research guide underneath it argues the case and shows where the classification breaks down.

Temples & Collections

The directory pages carry the individual monuments — inscriptions, dating evidence, ASI status and how to reach them. The collections group them by patronage, material or ritual circuit so a regional question can be answered in one pass.

Heritage, UNESCO & Field Studies

Inscription records, conservation status and the shorter single-monument investigations that sit beside the long guides. The methodology page explains how sources are chosen, and the corrections page is where to send a challenge with a record attached.

Field studies

Shorter, single-monument investigations — engineering, epigraphy and ritual — published alongside these guides.

Editorial standard

Every claim in these guides is tied to an ASI record, a UNESCO inscription file, an inscription or a named publication. Where the evidence is contested — the date of the Mundeshwari structure, the reach of the Vesara label — the guide says so instead of picking a winner. Factual corrections are handled through the corrections policy, and the full source list sits on the methodology page.

Guides are re-read when a new inscription survey, a UNESCO decision or an ASI publication changes the record, and each guide carries its own review history in its page metadata and article schema rather than on the index card. Nothing here is written to fill a slot: a topic gets a guide when there is enough primary material to argue something the directory pages do not already say.
