UNESCO World Heritage of India Quiz
Convention history, India's 45 global properties, inscription years, serial sites and current affairs (2021–2026) — the fastest-rotating portion of the UPSC/SSC syllabus.
What this set covers
This set follows the syllabus line that trips most candidates: the 1972 World Heritage Convention, the criteria used to inscribe a site, and the difference between properties recorded as cultural, natural or mixed. Expect match-the-following questions pairing a monument with its inscription year, and statements testing whether a group of monuments was inscribed as a serial property rather than as a single building.
For revision, group India's inscriptions by state and by decade instead of alphabetically. The Rock-Shelters of Bhimbetka and the Khajuraho Group belong to the early wave, the Sundarbans and the Western Ghats anchor the natural list, and the recent additions — Dholavira, the Ramappa Temple, the Hoysala temples and the Moidams of the Ahom dynasty — are the entries current-affairs questions are drawn from. Our UNESCO temple guide and the individual monument pages carry the exact years and the criteria each site was inscribed under.
Answer each question twice: once for the content, once for the year. Recent papers have favoured serial sites, the Tentative List, and monuments that were proposed but not yet inscribed — the three places where candidates lose marks they had already earned.
Practice Session
Choose a difficulty and length. Questions are drawn at random from the 50questions in “UNESCO & World Heritage” and options are shuffled, so every attempt is different.
