Founded in 2006 under the visionary leadership of Acharya Surendra Sharma Shastri and community trustees, the Hindu Heritage Centre was created to address the cultural and spiritual needs of thousands of Hindu families settling across Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, and Milton. Consecrated with a sacred five-day Pran Pratishtha Mahotsav in May 2011, the centre quickly expanded to establish the Hindu Heritage School, offering courses in Sanskrit, Hindi, classical music, and Vedic philosophies.
In 2017, the centre opened an expanded cultural hall and senior citizen activity wing, establishing itself as a premier community anchor recognized by municipal and provincial governments.
The centre features a grand contemporary temple facade accented with classical Indian shikharas, arched entrance colonnades, and gold-hued kalash spires. The main prayer hall (devsthanam) is a cavernous pillar-free sanctum capable of seating over 1,500 devotees, floored in polished marble and adorned with hand-sculpted white Makrana marble murtis from Jaipur.
The altar spans the length of the hall, providing magnificent simultaneous darshan of Radha Krishna, Lord Shiva with Nandi, Sita Rama Lakshmana Hanuman, Goddess Durga on her tiger, and Lord Ganesha. The lower level houses classrooms, a community dining banquet hall, and an auditorium.

The Hindu Heritage Centre plays a pivotal role in maintaining intergenerational continuity of Hindu traditions in Canada. Beyond daily congregational worship, the centre conducts regular youth leadership programs, interfaith symposia with Canadian civic leaders, blood donation clinics, and free meals (langar/prasad) for hundreds of attendees every week. It stands as a beacon of Sanatan Dharma in Ontario, demonstrating how traditional spiritual wisdom integrates seamlessly with modern Canadian civil society.
The foundational ethos of the centre is rooted in the universal Vedic aphorism 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (The World is One Family). The temple priests emphasize the egalitarian and inclusive nature of Sanatan Dharma, where worship of the Divine through various divine manifestations leads to unity, compassion, and inner realization.
Diwali, Krishna Janmashtami, Maha Shivaratri, and Holi are celebrated with immense enthusiasm, drawing over 10,000 attendees per festival. During Navaratri, nine nights of devotional Garba and Dandiya Raas dancing fill the grand hall. The centre also celebrates Canada Day annually with interfaith prayers for national peace and community barbecues.
