During the latter half of the 20th century, Gujarati and Marwari business families, government employees, and traders settled permanently in Port Blair, establishing commercial enterprises that helped build the island's economy. Aspiring to anchor their children in timeless Jain ethical values and spiritual practices, the community formed the Andaman Jain Sangh and resolved to construct an authentic derasar. Master Sompura temple architects and stone carvers were brought from Rajasthan.
Hundreds of tons of pristine white marble quarried from Makrana were shipped by maritime cargo vessels to Port Blair. The derasar was consecrated in an auspicious Pratishtha Mahotsav conducted under the guidance of venerated Jain acharyas, establishing a permanent center for the ancient Shramana tradition in the Bay of Bengal.
