ISKCON established its center in Dimapur to serve the spiritual needs of the community and to share the teachings of Lord Krishna as propagated by Srila Prabhupada. ISKCON was founded in 1966 in New York City by A C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who had arrived in America the previous year. Srila Prabhupada travelled from Calcutta to Boston in 1965 aboard the cargo ship Jaladuta, carrying little more than his books and translations.
The Dimapur temple follows the management structure laid down by the Governing Body Commission that Srila Prabhupada constituted in 1970 for the movement's temples.
