According to Panch Kedar mythology, when Shiva took the form of a bull to avoid the Pandavas, his face appeared at Rudranath. The temple is associated with the Pandava legend and has been a pilgrimage site for centuries. The current structure was developed by local communities and the Uttarakhand tourism department. The temple typically opens in May and closes in October due to snow.
