A spring called Gauri Kund runs just short of the temple, and tradition holds that Parvati bathed in it before her daily prayers. The broken mace preserved inside the shrine is traditionally ascribed to Bhima, one of the five Pandava brothers of the Mahabharata. Chanhani is 60 km from Jammu city and 40 km from Reasi. Taxis and local buses are available from Jammu. The temple is on the Jammu-Srinagar highway and can be combined with a visit to Kheer Bhawani. The temple stands at an altitude of about 1,225 metres, which keeps the hill air cool even when the Jammu plains are hot.
Patnitop lies 42 km away, and Udhampur railway station is about 52 km from the temple, with taxis available at both.
